Holidays After a Personal Injury Incident

If you have been involved in a personal injury incident in the past year, your holiday season may not be feeling merry or bright. Instead, you might be in pain or feeling financial stress while medical bills continue to arrive in your mailbox. At Grewer Law, we have seen firsthand how clients can be devastated during their first holiday season after a personal injury. Here are a few tips to keep your spirits up.

Keep Up with Medical Appointments

Your personal, family and professional calendars can get especially busy during this time of year. However, your medical appointments and therapy sessions are paramount to your recovery. Be sure to make these appointments a priority by scheduling them first. Then, you can add in other obligations around your medical appointments.

Schedule In Rest

Recovery can be a difficult road and your body needs plenty of rest to heal. While it is tempting to say “yes” to all your holiday celebration invitations, it is not always the best decision. This year, make a concentrated effort to deliberately schedule in rest times throughout your calendar. You may want to add an hour’s worth of decompression time after a medical appointment or plan for four hours of rest after a half-day of work. If you schedule your rest times in your calendar, you will have more energy to devote to other obligations.

Be Honest

Your holiday may look different this year, and that can cause a lot of emotions. Be honest and talk to trusted family members, friends, or a counselor. Talking about your worries and your feelings can help you feel better and it can give those in your life ideas on how they can best support you during this time.

Revise Your Budget

You may not be able to spend as much on gifts this year due to medical bills. While your personal injury attorney will be working on getting you the compensation you deserve, insurance companies will often not pay for costs until your medical case is closed. Consider revising your gift-giving budget to reflect this financial change this year.

Work with an Expert

You don’t have to advocate for yourself and battle the insurance company alone. In fact, you can focus more time and energy on your recovery, and on creating a meaningful holiday with your family, if you work with the experts at Grewer Law. We are ready to stand beside you and fight for your best interests while you focus on recovery.
